This is a natural method and doesn’t cause any damage to your hair as well helps you get frizz-free hair. For curly hair and wavy hair scrunching especially helps in reducing frizz and in increasing hair bounce. For straight hair, scrunching will help in creating waves and adding structure to your hair. For those women with curly hair, it is also one of the easiest ways to style your hair for defined curls instead of using a blow dryer or a curling iron.

How To Scrunch Wavy Hairs

Method 1: Scrunch Hair With a Towel Step by Step

This is a classic technique for hair scrunching in which you use mousse and a towel to help create bouncy and wavy hair. This method is most suitable for those having wavy hairs.

Step 1: Washing Hair

Wash your hair with a shampoo that is volumizing and then apply conditioner to your hair and leave it for some time detangle your hair with a comb that is wide-toothed then rinse your hair.

Step 2: Drying Your Hair using a towel

First, separate your hair into sections by hand then dry your hair with a towel ideally a microfiber towel is best. Make sure that you take each section and place it in a towel and squeeze out all the extra water.

Step 3: Untangle Hair

Untangle all the knots in your hair by bending and letting your hair fall down and then using your hands to untangle your hair

Step 4: Apply a Hair Mousse or Other products to enhance the curl

While you are still bending take hair mousse in your hands and apply it to the roots of your hair and scrunch your hair up using your hands almost like when you are wrinkling a paper. Push your hair from the roots towards the scalp when scrunching.

Step 5: Scrunch Hair using your hand pushing towards the scalp

After the mousse has been applied start scrunching your hair precisely especially for areas near your face hold your hair in your hand and then work by folding your hair in an accordion and pushing it towards your scalp and then letting it go.

Step 5: Let your hair air dry

Keep on preparing scrunching every 5 to 10 minutes until your hair feels dry.

Method 2: Scrunch Hair With a Diffuser and Blow Dryer

If You are in a hurry and want results in 10 to 15 minutes then use a blow dryer and diffuser to get those curls. This method is also suitable for those having curly hairs.

Step 1: Add Diffuser to Blow Dryer

Find and add a diffuser attachment to your blow dryer

Step 2: Make sure your Blow Dryer heat setting is at low

Make sure that you reduce the heat and speed setting of your hair dryer to low to prevent your hair from getting burnt as well as to reduce frizziness in your hair

Step 3: Add Mousse to your hair

Apply hair mousse into your brush and move it through your hair to spread it evenly and also detangle your hair

Step 4: Dry your Hair with Diffuser

Instead of using a towel  dry your hair using a diffuser by bending your hair head down and keeping your hair in the diffuser bowl all the while making sure that diffuser is at least a couple of inches away from your scalp

Step 5: Apply a Hair Gel or Hairspray

When your hair is at least 80% dry flip your hair back up and apply either hairspray or hair gel to your hair to firm up your look. Hair gel will keep your hair in place longer but too much can make your hair look greasy on the other hand you can keep on applying hairspray during the day whenever your hair feels frizzy

How To Scrunch Straight Hair

Method 2: Scrunch Hair With a Clip

You can easily scrunch straight hair by using clips and curling your hair into buns. This technique is more suitable for those looking for a curl pattern that is more precise and professional. Use Clips to scrunch your hair at night before going to sleep for good results

Step 1: Dry Your Hair

Wash and dry your hair using a microfibre towel also detangle your hair using a comb having wide tooths. Make sure your hair feels damp and not wet.

Step 2: Use Butterfly Clips to clip your hair

Take a number of butterfly clips and fold your hair in small sections and clip them in a bunch or buns to your scalp using these clips make sure that clips are arranged haphazardly to create a wavy look. You can arrange in as many bunches or buns as you like if you have a lesser number of buns you will create looser waves of hair while if you have more buns you will create tighter and smaller curls. In case you don’t have a butterfly clip you can use bobby pins and arrange your hair into little buns

Step 3: Apply Hairspray

With your hair in a bunch on your scalp and clips keeping them in place apply hairspray to your hair evenly. Now wait for at least 30 minutes and then see if your hair has dried around 30 minutes to an hour is needed for your hair to set into waves.

Step 4: Remove the Buns

Remove clips for your hair and pull your hair down from the buns after all the clips have been removed use your hands to do a round of hair scrunching take care not to use a brush or a comb as they will remove the curls as well as cause frizziness in hair. Finish by applying hair serum or hair gel to your hair in order to make your ends look shiny.
