Methods To Remove Toner From Hair at Home

You can remove toner from hair using either baking soda or hydrogen peroxide or lemon juice.  Here is the step-by-step process to wash toner out of the hair

Removing Toner from hair with Shampoo and Baking Soda

When trying to remove toner from your hair at home you can use baking soda which is abrasive and a clarifying shampoo here baking soda works as an exfoliator for the toner present in your hair. The clarifying shampoo will also help in removing all the buildup of dirt on your scalp.

  1. Make a mixture of Clarifying Shampoo and Baking Soda in a ratio of 1 to 5  i.e take 1 ml of baking soda to 5 ml of clarifying shampoo
  2. After making this mixture apply it to your hair normally and scrub it
  3. Keep the mixture of baking soda and shampoo in your hair for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse your hair taking care to ensure that all the baking soda is removed from your hair use lukewarm water
  5. Add a conditioner and do deep conditioning of your hair
  6. Finally, wash your hair with water that is at room temperature.

Removing Toner from hair with Shampoo and Hydrogen Peroxide

Here we will use hydrogen peroxide which is a bleaching agent to remove toner from the hair

  1. Take 100 ml of hydrogen peroxide and mix it with 100 ml of shampoo that is mild and store the resulting mixture in a spray bottle.
  2. Spray this mixture on your hair on the parts where you want to get rid of toner make sure that your hair is damp.
  3. Wear your disposable gloves and take care to spread this mixture evenly all across your hair
  4. Wait for a few minutes for the mixture to dry take care that the wait time should be less than 5 minutes at the maximum.
  5. Now take water and rinse your hair first with water that is lukewarm
  6. Do a deep conditioning of your hair and then rinse it with water that is at room temperature.

Removing Toner from hair with  Conditioner and Lemon Juice

In this method, we will use lemon juice to remove toner as it has oxidizing as well as bleaching properties. While this method is natural and safe do take care and not use this too much as it will end up drying out your hair and you should use it within 1 day of applying the toner for this method to be effective. Here is the step-by-step method.

  1. First, squeeze out lemons using a mixture or hand for short and medium hair lengths you will need 3 lemons while for longer hair lengths you will need 6 lemons
  2. Mix Lemon juice and conditioner in a ratio such as 2 tablespoon lemon juice with  15 ml of conditioner
  3. For best results use freshly squeezed lemon juice though even pre-packaged lemon juice can also work
  4. Apply the mixture to your hair using your fingers in such a way that all parts of the hair from root to tip are covered in it
  5. Cover your hair in a shower cap and leave the mixture on it overnight or for a couple of hours at least
  6. In the morning or after a couple of hours wash your hair

Get Toner out of the hair using Dish Soap and Lemon Juice

Another approach to removing toner from hair is to chelate your hair using dish soap and lemon juice. While normally chelating is done before dying your hair it can also be done to get toner out of hair. Be careful as this process will completely remove all the oil from your head leaving it extremely dry

  1. Wash your hair using a bar of dish soap and rinse it
  2. Squeeze a lemon directly onto your head and leave lemon juice directly in your hair
  3. After leaving the lemon juice in your hair for 2 minutes rinse your hair
  4. After rinsing your you should  deep condition your hair

Caring For Hair After Removing Toner

After removing toner from your hair you should follow a good hair care regimen here are some tips that we suggest for your hair

  1. Start using a mild and hydrating shampoo that includes ingredients like plant oils. glycerin and gums and avoid using shampoos with ingredients like sulfates and alcohols that dry out your hair.
  2. After washing your hair always follow it up with a conditioner.
  3. Weekly once on your hair use a deep conditioning hair mask.
  4. Always massage your hair with oils  you can apply jojoba or coconut oil
  5. Immediately after removing your hair don’t start dying your hair as it may damage your hair instead give it some time to refresh your hair
  6. If your hair is having split ends or dry hair give your hair some trimming
